Three ways a director of operations ensures a real estate team’s success.

Are you curious about the impact a director of operations can have on real estate teams? For agents, understanding the pivotal role these directors play is essential. In fact, they are one of the main driving forces behind their team’s success. Today, I had the privilege of interviewing Alicia Haschytz, the director of operations for Hvizda Realty Group, where she talked about the three most important lessons that she learned in real estate as the director of operations for our team.

1. Adapt to changes. Real estate is dynamic and constantly evolving—it’s never static, which makes it incredibly exciting. Change is a constant, affecting not only agents and clients, but also your transactions within the industry. You have to be prepared to adapt to changes that can happen at any time in order to maximize your performance.

2. Embrace discomfort. To drive yourself and your team to success, you have to be ready to embrace discomfort. There will be plenty of times that you’ll face situations that are extremely uncomfortable for you, but once you learn to embrace that and learn to be comfortable managing that, it will lead to growth and new opportunities. For example, if you get negative feedback, learn to face that head-on instead of avoiding listening to it, no matter how much you dislike listening to bad comments. Just keep in mind that it’s not always about you, but oftentimes it signals a change in the industry or people that you need to address or adapt to.

3. Foster positive team culture. In real estate or any industry, one should never underestimate the power of a positive team culture. You build that ideal culture slowly, and it’s a lot more than just listening to people and helping them grow. But positive cultures do not happen overnight—it is not a grand gesture, but a series of small things that happen when you have a deep understanding of each individual team member, leading you to create strong relationships with your team.
