Your environment shapes your results. Whether you are navigating your first year in the industry or looking to scale a veteran team, the foundation of a thriving business is built on support systems, daily non-negotiables, and intentional self-care.
In my first full year in real estate (2024), I closed 21 transactions totaling $8.2 million. By the following year, I maintained that volume with 21 transactions but increased my production to $12.2 million. Growth is absolutely possible, and here’s how you can make it happen, too.
1. Surround yourself with the right people
Your environment matters. Whether it’s being part of a team, having a mentorship plan, or working with a coach, the right support system changes everything. The people you surround yourself with shape your habits, mindset, and results.
2. Schedule Your Non-Negotiables
Success in real estate is a math problem, not a mystery. You must put the “money-making” activities on your calendar and treat them as immovable. This includes:
- Role Play: Sharp skills lead to closed deals.
- Lead Generation: The lifeblood of your pipeline.
- Negotiation Time: Protecting your clients’ equity.
Check out our deep dive into daily practices to see how we structure a winning schedule.
3. Become a Local Resource, Not Just a Salesperson
Real estate is a sales job, but our clients are making the largest financial decisions of their lives. They don’t need a “closer”; they need a resource. Confidence comes from competence. I highly recommend staying active with NHAR (New Hampshire Association of Realtors) events and continuing education classes to ensure you are the most knowledgeable person in the room.
4. Track Your Numbers (The Data Doesn’t Lie)
It’s easy to feel like you’re doing enough, but do you really know what’s working? I track calls, conversations, follow-ups, and appointments, and then I look at the ratios, like how many calls it takes to get an appointment. If you can’t answer those questions, you don’t yet know where to improve. Your numbers show exactly what’s working and what’s not.
5. Consistency Over Perfection
You don’t need to reinvent yourself or create a shiny new brand. Just be you, show up consistently, and be authentic. The right clients will connect with you naturally, and over time, things will start to click. Small, consistent actions always beat waiting for the perfect approach.
6. Protect Your Personal Life
Burnout is the silent killer of real estate careers. To build a business that lasts, you must protect your downtime, whether that’s exercise, family time, or simply recharging. Taking care of yourself is a business requirement.
